The Founder


António Costa

António Costa, the founder of Mindful Living, has a remarkable 25-year journey in the banking sector, one of society's most competitive markets.

During this period, António not only worked in management areas but also dedicated himself to the passionate study of human behavior. In the year 2000, this passion led him to formally deepen his knowledge in the field, which culminated in a transformative decision in 2017: he decided to make a radical career change, dedicating himself entirely to teaching and practicing mindfulness.

Since then, he has applied his knowledge to help individuals, businesses, and educational institutions live more consciously and balanced lives.

Curriculum note
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the Faculty of Psychology and Life Sciences (EPCV) of Universidade Lusófona.
  • Postgraduate degree in Prospective Innovation, Strategy (ISEG).
  • Several trainings in the area of emotional intelligence: Cognitive Neuroscience Applied to People Management, Innovation and Strategy - NeuroManagement; Training in Emotional Intelligence in Team Leadership - Development Systems; Family Constellations Facilitator; Louise Hay Method, Psychosynthesis.

  • Training as a Mindfulness Qualified Teacher (MBSR) by the UCSD Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute - University of California (School of Medicine), with the Director Founder and Senior Professor of the San Diego Center at the University of California, Steve Hickman, Psy.D., mentoring in 25 sessions.
  • Participation in the Mindfulness Teacher Retreat - Silence and Good Practices - Marrion Furr (Mindfulness Center at Oxford College). Training in Mindfulness in the Program "Finding Peace in a Frantic World" - by professors Marrion Furr and Chris Cullen from the University of Oxford UK: Oxford College Mindfulness Center.
  • Participation in the 5-day Silent Retreat "Deepening our Experience of Mindfulness" guided by Professor Dh. Karunavira from Bangor University - School of Psychology.
  • Advanced training in Mindfulness Teacher designated as "Advanced Teacher Training Intensive - Growing Into the Heart of Teaching MBSR - Dharma, Embodiment, and the Refinement of Intention", by Professor Beth Mulligan from the University of California, UC San Diego Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute.
  • Specialized training in education in "Be Mindful, Teach Mindfully, Teach Mindfulness" by the MindWell Institute, with professors Kevin Hawkins and Amy Burke, and "MindSerena Adventure" - Socioemotional Skills Program, by MindSerena.

  • MBSR - Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction - Eight weeks | 25 hours - Course in stress reduction based on Mindfulness. The first scientifically based course of its kind in the world, created by Jon Kabat-Zinn (Mindfulness Institute at the University of San Diego, California).
  • FPFW - Finding Peace in a Frantic World | Eight weeks | 12 hours - Course aimed at busy markets, with shorter and more focused practices.
  • Discover Your Path | Twelve weeks | 35 hours - Personal development course focused on self-awareness and conscious action.
  • Introduction - One weekend | 15 hours - Course based on MBSR, adapted to a weekend format and intensity.

The guiding principles of leading international colleges advocating for the implementation of Mindfulness in schools recommend integrating Mindfulness into all stakeholders involved in a student's education, with a special focus on teachers.

Since 2019, Mindful Living has been leading the implementation of a Mindfulness meditation project in the Ribatejo region as part of the Integrated and Innovative Plan to Combat School Failure in Lezíria do Tejo, involving 19 school clusters.

In addition to teachers, operational assistants and parents of students have been trained, creating a systemic movement.
 

Retreats

The demands and speed of today's society cause a disconnection with the inner self and with life.

  • Day Retreat: Arrive in the morning, leave your phone, tasks, and responsibilities behind, enjoy the silence and mindfulness meditation, and return home in the late afternoon, as if taking a deep breath for five or six hours.
  • Weekend Retreat: Allows for a deeper experience compared to a day retreat, offering more time and activities for potential transformation.
  • Week-long Retreat: Provides even greater relaxation and integration of learning at a deeper level, allowing for identifying what needs to be changed and planning action accordingly.
